WHILE YOU'RE SLEEPING by Diane Nalini It's that quiet hour of the morning When no one is stirring And the frost still blankets the hills There's a hazy mist lingering And the birds are barely twittering It's the moment I like most of all... While you're sleeping, just a' dreaming In blissful reverie Like a child walks for hours Through a wonderland of flowers The trace of a smile dances over your lips While you're dreaming dreams worth keeping Tomorrow's woes can wait I'll hold you close Till the sun comes up And we'll sleep in late

Mickey 04:05
MICKEY by Diane Nalini Creep creep creep along the narrow track Move those feet and Mickey, don’t look back The night is still but don’t be fooled by silence Amongst your enemies there’s some connivence The trap is set this time there’s no escape Creep creep creep don’t let them see you sweat Play it cool now, on your mark, get set It’s time to prove yourself so keep your wits up Stay on your toes boy or you’re sure to mess up Just watch your back I think they’re closing in Cause it’s cold outside when there’s no place to hide And no one will take you in The friends who once fought at your side Say, “Move on! Give in!” Creep creep creep towards your final stand Better pray an angel takes your hand They’ve got you cornered time to make a break now You can’t defend yourself, you wouldn’t know how Just take a chance and go, Mickey go

Cradle Song 04:44
CRADLE SONG lyrics by Tennyson, music by Diane Nalini What does little birdie say In her nest at peep of day? Let me fly, says little birdie, Mother, let me fly away. Birdie, rest a little longer, Till the little wings are stronger. So she rests a little longer, Then she flies away. What does little baby say, In her bed at peep of day? Baby says, like little birdie, Let me rise and fly away. Baby sleep, a little longer, Till the little limbs are stronger, If she sleeps a little longer, Baby too shall fly away.

Come Away 03:46
COME AWAY DEATH Lyrics: William Shakespeare, Music: Martin Picket Come away, come away, death And in sad cypress let me be laid Fly away, fly away, breath I am slain by a fair cruel maid My shroud of white, stuck all with yew O, prepare it! My part of death, no one so true Did share it. Not a flower, not a flower sweet On my black coffin let there be strown Not a friend, not a friend greet My poor corpse, where my bones shall be thrown A thousand thousand sighs to save Lay me, O, where Sad true lover never find my grave To weep there!

about

"Tales My Mama Told Me" is a collection of songs inspired by Diane Nalini's childhood.

In his four-star review of the album, the Montreal Gazette's Irwin Block wrote: "Diane Nalini has the voice, the phrasing, confidence, clarity and control to make a tune her own and turn it into a nuanced thing of beauty. From Harold Arlen’s Blues in the Night, to Charlie Parker’s Moose the Mooch, Rhodes scholar Nalini continues to grow as a true artist of the idiom. Her French on Jacques Prevert’s Les feuilles mortes is elegant, and her Portuguese on Jobim’s Corcovado equally convincing. Her bluesy music to Tennyson’s Cradle Song and the rendition of a Shakespeare song, Come Away – music by pianist Martin Pickett – are among the CD’s highlights. The skilled quartet that surrounds her voice includes Montreal-trained saxophonist Steve Kaldestad."
